I teach in some 8-10 countries a year, so I am in highly restricted weapon jurisdictions, least of all some very liberal states in the USA. Attendees tell me that why should they train anything with a pistol or a knife, we can’t carry one. All we can do is train unarmed. The conversation begins. I ask –
“Do criminals here have guns and knives?”
“Yes, they do.”
“In your unarmed courses, do you practice weapon disarming?”
“Oh yes we do. We do Ballistic-Galactic Krav Maga.”
“Okay, so, you disarm a knife and a pistol. One is now in your hands. Do you know what do with it? What end the bullet comes out? A safety? How to best use a pistol or knife to stay in and out of physical and legal trouble?”
Dumfounded…
“You may not hold a weapon you carry, but you may suddenly hold a criminal’s weapon. And need to use it. Fast.”

“You know knives are everywhere too. Think about being in a restaurant or your house. Most knife attacks in the civilized world are done with kitchen knives.”

If you are studying real world survival, not a hobby or art, it is a hand, impact weapon-stick, knife, gun, crime and war world. It behooves a survivalist to know their way in, out and around weapons, regardless of the local carry laws.
